MEAULNES LABERGE    LUTHIER

Bio:
I am originally from Quebec City, Canada. My family were musicians when I grew-up and my parents instruments always fascinated me. After spending my teenager years playing music, I learned and graduated from Quebec's "ELAN - Ecole de lutherie" violin and classical guitar making in the early 90’s and have been professionally active since. I worked in music stores and luthier repair shops, high-end custom guitar shops and big scale manufacturing facilities, on electric and acoustic instruments, across Canada and the United States. I also travelled in Europe, Mexico and Asia for apprenticeships or work. Thru the years, I gained knowledge and cooperated with dozens of talented and inspiring teams of people and feel very fortunate to be part of this community.
The main highlights of my carrier so far were to learn Violin making for a period of 3 years with Luthier Jacques Martel, assist David Webber for 4 years in his shop in North Vancouver, and be hired for Fender by Dan Smith in 2003, with the opportunity to live in United States and work in R&D for the historical Guild brand during an 8 years’ time period. After developing instruments for Fender Acoustics for another 7 years, I more recently had the chance to work with Gretsch guitar, one of the brands and team I respect the most.
Aside from this, I designed and still built my own instruments, since 1993 under the name ML Basses. It is the outlet I use to push my limits at creating high-end instruments that emphasis on playability, sound and durability. I also offer my services as a stringed instruments designer, 3D and CAD engineer under my business ML Lutherie.
I currently live in Port Coquitlam Canada, play in a local band and enjoy the nature that surrounds us.
